***SAVE THE DATE! - Winter Lights Celebration—December 8*** A great way to kick off the winter season is at BAHA’s annual Winter Lights Celebration on Sunday, December 8th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Roscomare Circle Park (south end of Roscomare Road). Expect fun activities for the kids, snacks and refreshments for all, and good conversations with your neighbors. It’s a festive time of the year and we hope to see you there.
All residents of Bel Air Hills are invited, regardless of membership in BAHA. However, becoming a BAHA member is simple and easy to do by just going to our website at https://www.baha.la, or by visiting the membership table at the park during the event. New, or lapsed, members will get the rest of 2024 and all of 2025 if they sign up now (that’s 2 months free!)
***Discounts for BAHA Members*** The holiday season is quickly approaching, and whether you’re looking for something for yourself or others, BAHA members can enjoy a nice discount from local businesses. See the end of this Newsbites for the current list or check out the BAHA Members Business Discount page on BAHA’s website anytime.
***Ava Kro Restaurant – Expanded Hours*** Ava Kro Restaurant (where BAHA members get a 15% discount!) is now open from 4pm to 9pm on Wednesday through Saturday, and from 9am to 2pm on Sundays. ***Wildlife Ordinance Update?*** Rumor has it that the City’s Planning Department will be introducing another version of the “Wildlife Ordinance” shortly, and that the plan is to send the new version to the City Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee for approval, and then to the full City Council within weeks after its release. If true, the Planning Department has failed to do any outreach to the affected communities, and this schedule, especially coming during the holidays, would not give residents in the affected areas sufficient time to review and understand this latest version. The BAHA Board and many of our residents had serious concerns with the last version of the “Wildlife Ordinance” – after an in-depth review, we concluded it was a “Wildlife Ordinance” in name only, and was overly burdensome to homeowners while also failing to meaningfully protect wildlife. We will keep you posted as we learn more.
***Red Flag Alerts Reminder*** The weather is getting colder, but the risk of wildfire remains high (the Skirball Fire, which forced Bel Air Hills to be evacuated, happened in December in 2017). For those that don’t know, when high winds cause authorities to issue a Red Flag Alert, street parking is prohibited in many areas of Bel Air Hill to ensure access for fire trucks in the event of a fire. The City will tow offending vehicles! For more information on Red Flag Parking Restrictions click here. And here are some suggested Red Flag Day best practices:
Here’s what a Red Flag sign looks like:
***Its Dark Out There*** Please be safe when walking on the streets -it’s hard for drivers to see pedestrians at night, or even at dawn or dusk. Wear reflective clothing and put something reflective on your dog, child, stroller etc. Also remember to walk/run on the left side of the street, facing oncoming traffic so you can see the cars coming – it’s not only safer, it’s also the law!
***BAHA’s Fall Festival*** BAHA held its annual Fall Festival on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Roscomare Circle Park. Many neighbors from our Bel Air Hills community came to enjoy the delicious refreshments and good conversations with those that they knew or just met. A great number of young families attended, and the kids were treated to creative arts and crafts tables. We are grateful to BAHA member, Laila Hussein, for generously providing her time, talent, and supplies. And thank you to BAHA member, Charlie McAndrew, for putting up the large inflatable figures and other decorations that added to the ambiance of the event. Thanks to all who attended! We hope to see even more Bel Air Hills residents next year, as well as at other planned BAHA events.
