***City to Fix Dangerous Road Bumps on Roscomare ***
After more than three years of work by BAHA, and over a hundred emails, phone calls, and meetings between BAHA and Councilmember Koretz’s office, Mayor Garcetti’s office, the Bureau of Street Services, and others, BAHA has finally been able to get the City to commit to repairing the road in the 2600 block of Roscomare, where trees roots from large pine trees adjacent to the road have created dangerous driving conditions along the sharp curve at that location.
Three of the problem trees will be removed, and Roscomare will be repaved between Hamner and Bel Canto (i.e., north of the school). The City has scheduled the tree removal portion of the work for November 14 and 15. This will require a full road closure, details will be coming soon and we will send them out to you and post on our website at baha.la.
Additionally, BAHA successfully intervened when the City initially attempted to make the adjacent homeowners responsible for the tree removals and road work. BAHA had reason to believe the problem trees were on City’s road right-of-way and had not been planted by the current homeowners, and therefore the repair should be the City’s responsibility and not the homeowners’. As a direct result of BAHA’s efforts, the City will be funding the full cost of the tree removals and road repair at this location. (Please note that this will not be the result at other locations if the problem trees are on private property)
We have also been in discussion with the City regarding the road bumps caused by tree roots in the 2700 Block of Roscomare. The City has advised us that a survey will be done and if it shows they are on City land they will attempt to find the funds next year to repair the bumps in the 2700 Block of Roscomare.
***Airplane Noise*** The airplane noise continues, albeit less because of the travel slow down due to Covid-19. It’s a matter of time before the air traffic will begin to increase and attain pre-Covid-19 levels. This is a very serious problem for people who live in the Santa Monica mountains, as we do. The San Fernando Valley side of the mountains is also being adversely affected. In addition to the noise, there is the pollution that comes from the air traffic expended fuel. This pollution can result in health problems for people living in the affected neighborhoods. An organization, SAVE OUR SKIES LA, is about to file a lawsuit against the FAA for failure to file an Environmental Impact Report in connection with the change in air flight patterns. If you are interested in finding out more about what they are doing, please go to sosla.org.
***Halloween / Fall Decorations*** We hope you are enjoying the Halloween/Fall decorations at Roscomare Park. If you haven’t seen them, please drive by our little local park and check it out!
***Volunteers Needed*** BAHA is always looking for volunteers to join BAHA Committees, or just pitch in from time to time. If you don’t have the time to be on a Committee, please consider devoting whatever time you can spare. Among other things, right now we could use some help with the upcoming redesign of our website, including website design, photography, and copywriting. And the Traffic Committee could use help on a research project that would hopefully lead to less speeding and fewer cars on Roscomare Road. Please tell us your interests or concerns and we will match you with a committee. Thank you!
***Happy Thanksgiving*** The Board of Directors of the Bel Air Hills Association wishes all of the residents a very happy and safe Thanksgiving. We are happy to represent you as we try to improve our neighborhood!
