A home on upper Roscomare Road (just south of Mulholland Drive) was used as an event space throughout the summer. The events and related parking created a dangerous and difficult traffic problem for our community. Using a residential home as a business is carefully regulated by Los Angeles city ordinances and is only permitted in very limited circumstances. This particular use clearly violated the residential home occupancy ordinance.
BAHA took a two-fold approach in dealing with this issue: (1) we approached the owner who has promised to no longer rent her home as an event space; and (2) we worked closely with the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety Inspector, providing him with ample evidence of the use and marketing of the home as an event space, to ensure he also issued a violation of the ordinance and ordered the owner to cease future use of the home as an event space.
The owner has apologized for the immense inconvenience and danger caused by the events.
