***Save the Date:  Annual Members’ Meeting***   The annual meeting of the members of BAHA will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the auditorium of the Roscomare Road Elementary School.  The meeting will commence promptly at 7:00 pm, with check-in beginning at 6:30 pm.  This will be a good opportunity to meet our new Councilmember for District 5, Katy Yaroslavsky, who is scheduled to speak at 7:00 pm.  We are also hoping to have the Senior Lead Officer from the West Division of the LAPD.  As always, nonmembers in our community are invited, but will have an option to join BAHA at the door.  Formal notices will go out to members in May.

*** Road Work Update***    Efforts by BAHA’s Traffic Committee have finally resulted in the finishing of the manhole covers on the recently repaved area around the 2500-2600 block of Roscomare Road.  In addition, BAHA is pleased to inform you that, after many years of requesting it, street resurfacing for Anzio and Brownwood will take place soon.  The exact schedule has not been released but it is expected to be done before the end of the City’s fiscal year in June.

***Senderos (formerly Hoag) Canyon Update***    As was noted in the February issue of Newsbites, Senderos Canyon was being auctioned with bids starting at $39 million, with the bidding ending on March 15, 2023.  To BAHA’s knowledge, there were no successful bids.  The Save Senderos Canyon (SSC) project has been working hard to protect this untouched natural land, which provides a rare perennial stream and habitat to many endangered animals and flora, from being developed.  Many thanks to those of you who wrote letters to the Council File and elected officials, as well as made donations to SSC.  The organization has contacted the realtor for SSC to formally express an intent for the property to be owned and managed in perpetuity by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy for the benefit of the entire State of California. Much more must be done to make this a reality, not the least of which is to raise the necessary funds.  Multiple sources of funding will be required, such as local, state and federal governments, as well as private donations.  Our new Councilmember, Katy Yaroslavsky, appears to be in agreement with SSC’s goal, and her staff is assisting with the effort.  To get involved and help save Senderos Canyon, please see the website savesenderoscanyon.org or email them at [email protected].  Thank you.
