***Fall Festival***  BAHA’s Fall Festival, held on October 17th at Roscomare Park was a wonderful success as so many neighbors turned out to enjoy the fun.  What a pleasure to see so many children dressed in costume, and so were many adults!  The children enjoyed arts and crafts and little take-home goodie bags, while the adults enjoyed conversations with their fellow neighbors and the delicious cookies that were provided by our own Joanie and Leigh’s Bakery.

BAHA hopes that those of you who were at the Fall Festival, but currently are not members, will join our neighborhood association.  It’s easy to join and your membership will help many things that benefit our neighborhood such as: maintaining the landscaping at the north and south ends of Roscomare - including the Park, keeping the neighborhood safer with BAHA’s security cameras, maintaining the quality of life issues such as trying to prevent a cannabis dispensary from opening in our area, and much more!  Just go to https://www.baha.la and click on “Join BAHA.”  Your membership is wanted and will be welcomed! And for all who join in November and December, your membership will also be good for all of 2022.

***BAHA Tree Lighting Celebration***  If you enjoyed the Fall Festival, you will definitely want to attend the BAHA Tree Lighting Celebration on Sunday, December 5th, from 3 to 5 pm at  Roscomare Park.  Activities are being planned for kids and adults.   In addition to meeting and greeting neighbors, plenty of hot apple cider and hot cocoa and more of those delicious cookies from Joanie and Leigh’s Bakery will add to the event.  This will be a festive time of tree lighting and enjoyment for all.  Please mark your calendars because we hope to see YOU and your family on December 5.

***SB 9 and SB 10 Update***  As we reported last month, the Governor has signed these two bills and they are now law.  For the Legislative Counsel’s Digest of SB 9, go to https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220SB9, and for the Legislative Counsel’s Digest of SB 10, go to https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220SB10.    Many people feel that these bills are not the solution to California’s housing problems, do not provide for affordable housing, and do not deal with infrastructure improvements to support additional density.  If you believe that these bills are not the solution to the housing problem and that local jurisdictions should control their own development, here is a link where you can support a petition for an initiative to appear on next year’s ballot that would roll back the effects of SB 9 and SB 10.  https://ourneighborhoodvoices.com.

***Update on Jet Noise and Air Pollution***  Burbank Airport (BUR) air traffic density has increased with low altitude jets spaced less than one minute apart, 5 new airlines added in 2021, and additional flight tracks added increasing toxins and noise over our homes and parks. Additionally, a major airport expansion is underway there that will further decimate everyone's quality of life. On October 26th the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the City of Los Angeles’ case against the FAA to change the flight paths that moved over our community without notice or environmental study. The Court dismissed the case for lack of standing/jurisdiction, claiming that FAA’s letter refusing to revert to the prior flight path did not constitute a “final order.” And then there is the disaster happening with highly increased volumes of air traffic and larger jets than ever before at Van Nuys Airport (VNY) plus the impending air taxi service. SOSLA.org still has an active lawsuit covering both BUR and VYN. Please consider a donation to SOSLA.org. It is easy to do and fully tax-deductible and without this lawsuit, there is no chance to reduce the problem.

***Update on Los Angeles City Council Redistricting***  Thank you to those who sent in your comments – the City Council heard us and the change we suggested, to extend the boundary of CD5 to the east so that it matches the location that demarks the LAPD and FD coverage has been adopted – but it isn’t final yet so stay alert!

***Update on Metro's Sepulveda Transit Corridor***  Metro continues to look for the best way to provide mass transit from the Valley through to the Westside and eventually south to LAX. The project title is misleading, as the transit options do not need to go through the Sepulveda Pass. The environmental phase will start with a scoping period beginning on November 30, 2021 to February 11, 2022. Stay tuned and make your comments!

***Happy Thanksgiving***  The Board of Directors of Bel-Air Hills Association wishes all of our members and all of our community, a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
